Tunable narrowband excitonic Optical Tamm states enabled by a metal-free all-organic structure

Abstract Optical Tamm states (OTS) are confined optical modes that can occur at the interface between two highly reflective structures. However, due to strong reflectance required, their implementation with processable and metal-free flexible materials has proven challenging. Herein, we develop first structure supporting OTS based only on organic polymeric materials, demonstrating a photonic platform non-critical, widely available easily materials. The structures fabricated present large areas consist of narrowband multi-layered distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) followed by thin film J-aggregate molecular excitonic material act as surface within range. We take advantage spectral response DBR layer tune band varying periodicity multilayer, opening door for fabrication lightweight integrable devices cost-effective procedures.
